Database Preparation
Before actually attempting an import there are some preparations that must be done. First the database must be initialized. This process is explained in the section 'Initialize Library' section of this document. This must be done to empty the database files because the default action of the import is to append new records. Each new record is added to the records that already exist. Any record that creates a duplicate key is appended to the duplicate file.
Starting at the main menu select: File > Setup > Initialize Media Library to empty the database.
After the database is empty it is necessary to enter some default values:
§ Resource type,
§ Acquired, and
§ Location.
See the section 'Resource Type Selections' in the 'Getting Started' section of this document.
You must be willing to experiment because it is inevitable your first attempts will not be successful. Each time you will see the results of importing your unique data format into this programs unique data format. Hopefully after each attempt you will see what has to be done differently on the next attempt. Please remember that the database will have to be initialized and the default values reentered each time a new import is attempted.
