Before computers all resources were listed by accession number in a book carefully maintained by the library staff. When a book or other item had to be removed from the shelf the accession book entry was lined out. This indicated it was no longer in the inventory. The accession number would NOT be used again. But with computers removing a book from inventory is as simple as clicking the delete button.

To remain in accordance with standard library practice the Media Library Ministry program has an field to indicate if an item is active or inactive. When active the book is visible from every window. If inactive it will never be visible from the Check-out window.

However the maintenance window has an option to view active only, the default, inactive only or both. Using the active and inactive option in conjunction with the Status option can add to the flexibility of the application.

Remember when looking for a title it may be inactive and not visible by default in the window you are viewing.
