Before a audio or video file can be played the program to play the file must be defined. This only need be done once, unless you want to change to a different player. The Microsoft Media Player is part of every Windows installation by default. It is not necessary to purchase a media player unless you want to. For our example we are going to set the MS Media Player as your favorite. We have a list of the most popular players with each players executable file name.
From the main menu select File > Define Player Program.
![]() Define player program
Highlight the MS Media Player selection in the Select Player from list box. Once it is selected click on the button Start Automatic Search for Selected Player.
![]() Searching for selected player program
The program will search the entire C:\ drive starting at the root. Every incident of WMPLAYER.EXE found will be added to the list. As you can see I have more than one on my hard drive. You only want to select one. Always select the one in the Program Files folder. First highlight your selection and press the Select button located at the top right of the "Select a file..." window.
The search window will close automatically. Your selection will be saved in the program INI file to be used as needed.
There are four of the most popular player options listed for you to select for your search. In the event the player you would like to use is not in this list there are other search options.
![]() Enter EXE file name.
Option 2: Is not listed but I know the program file name. Enter the complete program name of the executable file. Then click the automatic search button to have the program find it for you.
![]() Enter the complete EXE path.
Option 3: Is not listed but I know how to start it. Enter the complete file path including the drive letter, all folders and the executable name. This option is for the power user who knows exactly how to get the full path for the program.
![]() Use file explorer to find the path and name.
Option 4: Is not in the list but I can find the program file. This is similar to option 3 but you use file explorer to get the complete path. Using this option you do not have to worry about spelling the full path.
