Installing and running RCL Music Ministry in a network configuration is really very simple:
All of these network devices can be purchased from just about any retail store that sells computers.
If you have not already done so, I would strongly suggest you find someone in your church that would be willing to help you with computer questions.
Note: A Microsoft security patch now prevents HTML Help .CHM files from being opened on network drives. "Action canceled!" will be displayed instead of the topic text. When you distribute this CHM file, please ensure that it gets installed on the local C: drive.
For Administrators and IT Personnel
RCL Music Ministry is installed by default the folder MUSICMIN at the root directory of the C: drive. All files, EXE files, DLL files, INI files, and data files are all located here. This folder has everything needed to run the RCL Music Ministry. This accomplishes two things:
The program can be installed from the CD-ROM or the download your church server or on the workstation that has been designated as the server. Once the installation is complete then share the MUSICMIN folder. Set your user access privileges accordingly.
To connect a workstation to RCL Music Ministry it must be on the network. Map a drive to the shared folder on the server. Make sure it is a permanent connection and will reconnect at startup. From the server side create a shortcut for:
Copy these shortcuts to the workstation desktop. You can also one or more of the shortcuts in the workstations program list. The only program you must have is MUSIC.EXE. The other is optional. See note above regarding Microsoft, network servers and CHM files.
It is possible you will also have to redefine the program icons. Sometimes when a shortcut is created the default icon is not added correctly.
If RCL Music Ministry is going to be installed on the churches network, either a Windows Server or Novel, the steps would be the same. |
